If you're planning to work in Pakistan as a foreign national, it's important to understand the work visa process. The Government of Pakistan offers different types of work visas for eligible individuals who have secured employment in the country. Overview of Pakistan Work Visas


Foreign professionals can apply for a work visa through Pakistan’s official E-Visa portal. Employers in Pakistan are responsible for submitting the work visa applications on behalf of expatriate employees. Applications must be submitted online via https://visa.nadra.gov.pk/work-general-visa.


Types of Work Visa Applications


There are two main types of work visa applications available:

  1. New Entry Visa: For individuals who do not currently hold a valid visa for Pakistan.
  2. Visa Extension: For individuals already residing in Pakistan with a valid visa, who wish to extend their stay.


Who Can Apply?


Foreign nationals who have received a valid job offer from a company registered in Pakistan and meet the application criteria are eligible to apply. The sponsoring company must be properly registered and provide the required documentation.


Required Documents for Work Visa Application


For Company-Sponsored Employment:


  1. Valid passport
  2. Recent photograph
  3. Job offer or appointment letter from a company registered with the Securities and Exchange Commission of Pakistan (SECP)
  4. Duration of employment and salary details
  5. Sponsorship or guarantee letter from the employer
  6. Recommendation letter from the Board of Investment (BOI) or the concerned Commercial Wing of the embassy


For Employment by a Sole Proprietor:


  1. Valid passport
  2. Recent photograph
  3. Employment agreement or letter with job details and salary
  4. Tax certificate of the employer
  5. Employer’s CNIC or passport copy
  6. BOI or Commercial Wing recommendation


Note: If you are applying from a country other than your country of citizenship, you must upload proof of legal residence in that country under the “Other” document category.


Additional Requirements for Visa Extension:


  1. A valid Pakistani visa
  2. Proof of legal entry into Pakistan (entry stamp on passport)
  3. These documents should be uploaded under the “Other” category as supporting documentation


Visa Duration and Validity


  1. Both entry and extension visas are typically granted for two years with multiple entries permitted.
  2. For extension requests, applicants must already be residing in Pakistan with a valid visa.


Processing Timeline


  1. The standard processing time for both new and extension applications is approximately 4 weeks.
  2. The final decision to issue the visa rests with the Government of Pakistan.
  3. If an application is returned for corrections or additional information, the 4-week processing time will reset upon resubmission.
  4. Applicants must resubmit within seven days of being notified, or the application will be automatically canceled.
