Turkey 2025: Parental Leave & Flexible Work Reform

In July 2025, Turkey introduced important changes to support working parents, making it easier for them to balance work and family life. The updates include longer parental leave, more flexible work arrangements, and new part-time work rights for public sector employees.

These changes aim to better protect the rights of both mothers and fathers while helping employers adapt to a more flexible workforce.

Changes in 2025

Longer Maternity and Paternity Leave

  1. Maternity leave has increased from 16 weeks to 20 weeks.
  2. Paternity leave has been extended from 5 days to 15 days.

This gives both parents more time to bond with their newborn and adjust to their new roles at home.

Remote and Flexible Work for Parents

After using maternity or paternity leave, parents now have the right to request remote work to ease their return to work.

Parents of children under the age of 6 can also apply for
flexible leave, including both paid and unpaid options depending on the situation.

New Part-Time Option for Public Servants

A new rule allows public employees (civil servants) to work part-time until their child starts school.

This applies to both mothers and fathers, including adoptive parents. They can work:

  1. Up to 3 days per week, or
  2. Half of their normal working hours

Why This Matters

These updates are designed to help parents stay active in the workforce without giving up time with their children. They also make it easier for employers to retain experienced staff by offering more family-friendly policies.
