German Blue Card Process

1. Check the requirements

. University degree and above with a relevant major suited to your profession or evidence of 5 years working experience in the same line of work (Check if your degree is recognised within Germany and matches the job position)

. Make sure your employment salary matches the prerequisites, annual gross salary of 45,300 euros and in MINT and health professions of 41,041.80 euros (as of 2024).

. Qualified professionals with academic degrees but not meeting the above income level, or those with vocational training, can obtain a residence permit to work in a job that matches their qualifications.

2. Request an appointment with the German embassy

. Prepare the required documents, i. a. employment contract, passport, proof of the recognised degree, visa application form.

3. Apply for a visa in the country of residence

. Bring all the documents

. Pay the fee: EUR 75 (local currency)

Note: Processing times may vary between a few days to several weeks

4. Entrance into Germany

. Enter with entrance visa

Note: Health insurance must be taken out prior to entrance into the country

5. Apply for a residence permit

. Make an appointment at the competent foreigners authority

. Prepare list of documents requested by the foreigners authorities

. Apply for the Blue Card (Section 18 (2) Residence Act – AufenthG)

. Fees can amount up to 100 EUR (Section 45 et seq. Residence Orginance – AufenthG)
