Egyptian Employment Contract


The law requires all employers in Egypt to provide each employee with a written employment contract. These contracts need to be written in Arabic, the country’s official language, in the Egyptian pound currency, and include any relevant details such as working hours, compensation, benefits, etc.

Egypt Vacation


In Egypt, employees who have worked for their employer for at least six months are generally entitled to 21 days of paid leave per year. If they have worked for their employer for 10 years or are over 50 years old, they are entitled to one month (30 days) of holiday. After five years of employment, employees are also entitled to one month of religious leave for pilgrimage.


Egypt Sick Leave


Employees in Egypt are entitled to six months of paid sick leave, with compensation of at least 75% of regular wages.


Maternity and Paternity Leave in Egypt


Female employees in Egypt are entitled to three months (90 days) of paid maternity leave. Generally speaking, it can only be used twice within five years.


Employee Severance Pay and Termination of Contract in Egypt


When firing an employee in Egypt, the case must be submitted to the Ministry of Manpower and Immigration, which has 15 days to make a decision. Employees can also challenge the decision.

Employees are also entitled to a notice period before termination, which varies based on their length of service. For those with less than 10 years of experience, there is a mandatory notice period of 60 days. For those with more than 10 years of service, the minimum period is 90 days.

The trial period in Egypt is limited to three months.


Taxes in Egypt


In Egypt, both employees and employers are required to contribute to social security, with contributions varying based on salary. For employers, the contribution is 24% or 26% of salary, and for employees, it is 11% or 14%.

Income tax in Egypt is progressive, with rates ranging from 0% to 25%, depending on income level.

Egypt's corporate tax is 22.5%.
